Admitting Workflow

RBC 3 CAPU

From RBC Emergency Department to RBC HT 3 Behavioral Health:

  1. Follows the typical “ED to Inpatient” workflow, just with the “Admit to Inpatient Psychiatry [ADT19]” order
  2. ED Provider places the “ED to Floor Bed Request [ADT9]” Order (creates a request for the bed managers)
  3. Admitting Provider places the “Admit to Inpatient Psychiatry [ADT19]” Order. This updates the patient’s class to Inpatient Psych, which is the only patient class allowed on RBC unit (these are some of the hard stops folks were hitting the past two days)
  4. Bed Manager Targets the appropriate unit (RBC HT 3 BH) so the patient shows as “Expected”. Communicates with RBC BH staff to assign the appropriate room & bed.
  5. Nurse (or transporter, if used) moves the patient to the floor.
  6. RBC HT 3 BH Charge Nurse or Unit Secretary completes the Incoming Transfer from their Unit Manager.

From RBC Inpatient Bedded Nursing Unit to RBC HT 3 Behavioral Health:

  1. Attending Provider places the “Transfer Patient to a New Unit [ADT7]” order (sends a bed request)
  2. Admitting Provider places the “Admit to Inpatient Psychiatry [ADT19]” Order. This updates the patient’s class to Inpatient Psych.
  3. Bed Manager Targets the appropriate unit (RBC HT 3 BH) so the patient shows as “Expected”. Communicates with RBC BH staff to assign the appropriate room & bed.
  4. Nurse (or transporter, if used) moves the patient to the floor.
  5. RBC HT 3 BH Charge Nurse or Unit Secretary completes the Incoming Transfer from their Unit Manager.

From RBC HT 3 Behavioral Health to RBC Inpatient Bedded Nursing Unit:

  1. Attending Provider places the “Transfer Patient to a New Unit [ADT7]” order (sends a bed request)
  2. Admitting Provider places the “Admit to Inpatient [ADT1]” Order. This updates the patient’s class to Inpatient Psych.
  3. Bed Manager Targets the appropriate unit (RBC HT 3 BH) so the patient shows as “Expected”. Communicates with RBC BH staff to assign the appropriate room & bed.
  4. Nurse (or transporter, if used) moves the patient to the floor.
  5. RBC HT 3 BH Charge Nurse or Unit Secretary completes the Incoming Transfer from their Unit Manager.

Direct Admission to RBC HT 3 Behavioral Health, or Transfers Between Another UH Facility and RBC

  1. Referring Provider places the “Initiate Request to another UH Facility or Exempt Unit [ADT20]” Order. Select the “UHHS Transfer Center” region and fill out the other required questions in the order (i.e. Inpatient Psych Patient Class, LOC, Service”
    1. Transfer Center staff in the SOC Office processes the request, coordinates movement between the facilities, and targets the RBC Hospital for a pending preadmission.
      1. Bed Manager Targets the appropriate unit (RBC HT 3 BH) so the patient shows as “Expected” in the direct admissions section. Communicates with RBC BH staff to assign the appropriate room & bed.
      1. RBC HT 3 BH Charge Nurse or Unit Secretary completes the Incoming Admission from their Unit Manager upon the patient’s arrival.
        1. NOTE that the majority of the ‘hard stop’ admission registration items are defaulted in from the Transfer Center workflow, but there still may be Patient Access intervention needed for brand new patients that must be completed to Admit (please follow up with the Patient Access team for more information/details on Admission hard stops for direct admissions)
